What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes. It is based on the theory that these points, known as reflex areas, correspond to different organs and systems in the body. By applying pressure to these reflex areas, it is believed that it can promote relaxation, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Our Reflexologist, Sue, has over 8 years experience supporting people in Sevenoaks to relieve stress, alleviate pain, and enhance their overall well-being. During a reflexology session, Sue will use her fingers to apply gentle pressure to work on these mirrored areas, aiming to restore balance and promote optimal functioning of the body. The overall aim is to facilitate the body’s natural potential for well-being.

Sue Dixon Reflexologist in sevenoaks
Sue has been praciticing Reflexology for over 8 years after completing her Level 3 Reflexology Qualification with the Association of Reflexologists in 2015. Sue first discovered Reflexology after having treatments herself to help with stress and fatigue and found it extremely beneficial. At the time she was also looking to change her career, and this complimentary therapy resonated with her so much, that she decided to train to become a Reflexologist.
how does
reflexology work?
Reflexology is based on the belief that various systems and organs throughout the body can be mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas, such as the feet, hands, ears, and face. During a session, a skilled reflexologist applies targeted pressure to these reflex points using their thumbs, fingers, or hands. This pressure stimulates nerve endings, encourages improved blood circulation, and promotes a balanced flow of vital energy throughout the body. It’s thought that this therapeutic touch can help release tension, alleviate stress, and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
In the 1920s, researchers conducted investigative studies on this concept, which led to the creation of the first Western reflexology foot map. To see this connection between the feet and the rest of the body, you can check out the reflexology map on the right or visit the Association of Reflexology website for a full interactive foot map here.

Reflexology treatment q&A
During the session, you can expect to recline in a comfortable chair or lie down while our trained reflexologist Sue applies gentle pressure to specific points on your feet, hands, or ears. You might feel a sensation of warmth, tingling, or relaxation as Sue works on different areas. Reflexology sessions typically last around 30 to 60 minutes
There are several benefits that reflexology may offer, but only a select few have undergone scientific scrutiny. That being said, the present data indicates that reflexology is a promising method for mitigating stress and anxiety, alleviating discomfort, boosting one’s emotional state, and ultimately promoting a greater sense of overall wellness.
Reflexology is generally safe but there are certain situations in which it’s advisable to avoid the treatment. If you have open wounds, infections, or rashes on your feet or hands, it’s best to postpone the session until the skin has healed to prevent discomfort or potential complications. Similarly, individuals with a history of blood clots, thrombosis, or circulation disorders should exercise caution and seek medical advice before pursuing reflexology. Lastly, if you have a medical condition that could be aggravated by increased blood circulation, such as deep vein thrombosis, it’s recommended to avoid reflexology or consult a medical professional first.
